Comments like this from who should be respectable CEO's kind of remind me of politicians during election season - lots of (not so) subtle hints aimed at the opposition. Such down-talking shouldn't be a part of the business world.
I always respected more those that would rather put their head down and let their actions do the talking. But maybe thats just me.
At PlayStation360: Thanks mate, I figured a few people from a certain country down south would instantly recognise my name ;) Bubbles for your YouTube find, that brought back some memories...
ApocalyPS3 - I agree with some of your points about Japanese Anime, especially the suggestion that "No man is an island". That is fair enough.
However, your point no. 5 that "general idea that Japan is superior to all other nations" made me have a bit of a laugh. As a resident of neither country, I would like to point out that many countries in the rest of the world hold the common perception that Americans believe their nation is superior to all other nations...
Confirmation from PSBlog for September 25th For US:

Hope that helps.
So hypothetically, if the 360 had been outselling the PS3 5 to 1 since it's launch, your saying Microsoft would still have dropped the price to $199? Interesting...
Your mature reply is welcome XboxOZ360, and you seem well versed in Microsoft's financial strategy, so I cannot argue on these points. I can well believe that Microsoft has higher cash reserves than Sony, and it makes sense to likely use them for the purpose of enhancing brand perceptions (with products like the Zune and the XBox line), even if it means a short-term loss.
Heres where things get tricky. I can well see the 720 launching in late 2010 (~Nov); this gives the 360 5 yea...
You have some good points Bruce, but a few questions come to my mind as well.
Mainly, I disagree with the notion that Microsoft "have moved the 360 down to the $199 price point so they are strategically positioned to launch the premier phoenix machine any time they want".
I do not believe this is a strategic marketing decision but a reaction from being outsold by the PS3. To me this is a attempt to slow the PS3's sales momentum, not prepare Microsoft to lau...
If I happened to be one of GameStop's managing directors and actually saw some of the shenanigans that go on inside their stores, there would be some serious Donald Trump "You're fired!" ass-kicking going on.
Sometimes I seriously doubt that managers know exactly how much influence their employee's have over potential customers. I wonder how much this would affect software sales attachments for PS3s and 360s. Probably not a huge amount, but a little at least...
I agree with most of the posters here. Just because a new format is released doesn't mean that the current one is suddenly "dead". No-one can really say with a straight face that DVD is "dead", just because Blu-ray is gaining in popularity. Both formats are currently comfortably co-existing because the market allows it. Even if a new superior physical format was invented, its as though the author cannot imagine a world where there are two different formats existing at the ...
Some decent tips there, although I suspect many N4G readers would already know most of them.
However, I did happen to frown on this particular line: "If you live in U.S and are so anxious getting your stuff; go to your European account they always get their stuff first."
I think there may be many EU PS3 owners that might disagree with that. While the EU Store might get it's update first (or so the article says), I'm not sure how the EU Store gets something ...
I agree with tk. I'm not a developer, so I cant talk for one. But developers have repeatedly stated that PC games require coding for a wide range of hardware, having to scale back to accommodate different configurations, making optimisation difficult and more time consuming.
To make a game where the engine can only run on the highest configuration of hardware would be to eliminate a large portion of your market base. The key word there is accessible. Not every one has custom buil...
As much as I enjoy having a laugh at someone's witty satire, it might be wise to point out that N4G.com is commonly visited by many 'social' news readers that are not as clued up as regular N4G enthusiasts, and will not realise that sarcasticgamer.com do actually specialise in... sarcasm. As such, I'm not sure this really belongs on the N4G front page.
A 9.4 out of 10?

Nice article, Hops. An interesting perspective, even if it is only relevant for those in New Zealand.
The point about retailers such as EB Games trying to exploit the second hand games market and how developers are trying to combat this I found quite interesting. This is something that many here probably do not consider but it has serious ramifications for all gamers.
DLC seems to be quite the increasing hot topic these days; even flagship titles like Killzone 2 has ...
This is an interesting tack taken, considering that the developers previously ruled out putting predators in the game for interesting reasons:
http://www.computerandvideo...
"The reason we decided to stay away from predators was because our animal AI is a subset of our human AI.... the problem was, if we wanted to put predators into that ecosystem we would have to balance it ...
Well Firstkn1ghT, if Sony decide to release this DLC free of charge, and considering you will most likely have to pay for GTA's DLC, then I can tell you exactly which one will be more successful.
Irregardless, that depends on how exactly you quantify "successful" in the first place.
EDIT: Beat me to it again, Fishy.
I agree Fishy. I'm not sold on the idea of exclusive content for some groups but having others miss out, solely decided by purchase format. Those that parted with money to purchase the goods should be equally rewarded.
I am yet to be convinced that DLC is a system seller either. I welcome those to correct me maturely, but DLC seems to me to be less of a way to sell systems and more of a way to score points. First Microsoft scores with GTA DLC, then Fallout DLC, so Sony strikes ba...
You mean Life With Playstation? Its kind of like a free Google Earth type program, presumably accessed from the XMB, that offers real time news updates and weather via an interactive globe interface (-IGN). Kind of hard to sum up but this may help:
http://www.engadget.com/200...
Your point about the credibility of the site PSU may be valid, but maybe you missed the source of where the quote came from. Perhaps you have heard of a site called Gamespot?
http://www.gamespot.com/xbo...
I direct you to the 4th paragraph, 3rd sentence. I think we should all be free to draw our own conclusions from that.
EDIT - comment not ...
Agreed, Cajun Chicken. Many tech types like the author are so used to living with unconstrained broadband access that they forget large parts of the rest of the world still operate with major caps on their broadband.
To them, unlimited broadband the normal way of life but for many like me, DD are many years away from reality. Why would ISPs drop a major source of revenue (caps) just because a few tech types think they should?
